The Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program (LOASRP) will be hosting a late fall planting event on Saturday, November 25th near Claremont (north of Pickering). Volunteers are invited to join LOASRP staff as we plant native trees and shrubs near Mitchell Creek, a headwater tributary to East Duffins Creek.
When: Saturday November 25th, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Where: The planting site is on the north side of Concession Road 9 (Durham Regional Road 5), just east of Sideline 22. Approximately 2km west of Claremont. Please contact us for additional details (see below).
Why: The planted vegetation will improve habitat within Mitchell Creek. Each plant contributes to a riparian buffer that helps protect the stream from surrounding land uses. Mitchell Creek is a headwater tributary to Duffins Creek, one of LOASRP’s priority Atlantic Salmon watersheds.
The LOASRP will provide shovels, gloves and refreshments for the event. You will need to be responsible for proper footwear (waterproof boots recommended) and weather-appropriate clothing.
Please RSVP if you wish to help out with this event, this allows us to bring the appropriate amount of gear for everyone. To RSVP, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on Friday November 24th.
Further event details (including parking instructions) will be communicated to those who have RSVP’d.
Thanks, and we hope you can make it!
